Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City Thunder Information

When the city of Seattle failed to reach an agreement to upgrade the deteriorating Key Arena, home of the Supersonics, the team ownership group, led by Howard Schultz, sold the franchise to Clay Bennett who in turn notified the NBA that he was moving the team to Oklahoma City. After agreeing to pay the city $45 million (and an additional $30 million if the city of Seattle is unable to land another NBA franchise) the franchise packed up and moved to Oklahoma.

In their first season, the team struggled with both injury and a 10-game losing streak that prompted the firing of Head Coach P.J. Carlesimo and his assistant Paul Westhead. Another assistant, Scott Brooks, took over on an interim basis. He took over the position full time on April 15th 2009 after the team showed a marked improvement. Brooks finished with a 22-47 record (15-17 in December).

The Thunder has an NBA Development Team, the Tulsa 66ers which it also owns. The Thunder play their home games at the Ford Center.
